NYCB Ocean’s Kingdom Fall 2011 Gala
Photographed the red carpet of the New York City Ballet’s Fall 2011 Gala last night.
The evening featured the premiere of Peter Martins and Paul McCartney’s ballet collaboration, Ocean’s Kingdom. I have never shot a red carpet event before, it was somewhat surreal. Everyone looked fancy and seemed to be enjoying the flashes and
the attention! Maybe I should become a paparazzi photographer!

dearraindrop

Dearraindrop will be showing some new clothing and an installation at the Hole for Fashions Night Out, September 8th, 6 PM–Midnight.
Moni Haworth photographs
Discovered the photographs of London-based Moni Haworth on her blog, Johnny’s Bird, last night and spent a good hour plus clicking through. I really like these, they remind me of Corinne Day’s pictures from the early 90′s.

also, you should go check out the micki pellerano exhibit that is currently on view (until jan. 30) at live with animals gallery (which cameron and vashti run, with tania ryalls).

* i am hoping to do more studio visits with the folk of monster island, as the space may not be around forever and I feel that it is an important cultural landmark in the neighborhood!
** the images of the artist’s work featured in this post are pulled from various gallery websites

fancy army of the future
UH OH. STEROIDS: DAY 2
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so after further contemplation and a lot more staring in the mirror this afternoon i decided that my face needed AT LEAST another day of complete makeuplessness, pampering, and ointment application and decided to cancel my afternoon bike ride. instead of subjecting any innocent civilians to my facial troubles i locked myself inside, took my goddamn steroids*, and searched the internet for headwraps, bondage masks**, bandanas, burkas, & creative head bandaging examples (yes, i googled mummies).

i was hoping to find something that was not only functional (having a superior ability to hide the rash on my forehead) but also extremely fashionable so i could feel like i was giving the kids something special, unique, and fabulous to gander upon as they passed me on the street (if you are going to look like a freak you better at least try to do a good job doing so).
the internet produced NO worthwhile results (see above). the reality of a few more days homebound started to sink in. the steroid dose did not make me feel as happy as it had yesterday, instead i felt insanely depressed about my current state & now that sadness was peppered with a bit of ROID RAGE (not a good combination***).
AND THEN I REMEMBERED GARETH PUGH.
the fancy army arrives once again just in time to prevent another mental breakdown!
Pugh’s ensembles often feature eccentric headpieces that obscure one’s entire face. PERFECT, no?

these are all a bit too bondage-y for my taste****.

kind of digging this but i am pretty sure it is out of my price range.

although this is pretty fun, not sure it works with today’s mood and i most certainly could not ride my bicyclette decked out in this number.

THIS, folks, is what i NEED, just the headpiece (i basically already have the rest of this look kicking around in one of my closets). this head gear will turn me into MODERN ART and that is something i can get pretty excited about. au revoir, malaise!
not sure how much this will $cost$ me but i am accepting donations.
PAYPAL AWAY whilst enjoying these Gareth Pugh video pieces.
one small donation = a significantly lessened risk of future mental breakdowns for miss v.

*steroids are REALLY FUCKING INTENSE. i don’t think i like them and i wish i did not have to take them for 5 more days.
**i didn’t really google those because they kind of freak me out.
***i apologize to anyone who may have been affected by this rage, it was the drugs, i swear.
****and totally remind me of the band YIP YIP, not that that is bad, just sayin’.

CODY CRITCHELOE/SSION
CODY CRITCHELOE/SSION – BOY at THE HOLE, soho
AUGUST 26 – SEPTEMBER 11, 2010
went to this opening the other night and really wanted to watch the film but the gallery was a bit too anarchic/crowded with crazy kids posing and snapping tons of photos of themselves to squish my way onto the big fluffy cushions and take it in proper style. the movie will be playing daily for a few weeks so i am hoping to go back. you should go see it too, the lounge is a trippy, psychedelic mess, reminds me of the art/record listening/hangout room (called “the gallery”) i built in my mom’s basement when i was in high school, ohhhhhhhhhhh so long ago.
from the hole’s press release:
This queer punk performance art band just came out with BOY, a feature length movie documenting Cody’s life as a small town punk kid addicted to junk food dreaming of stardom who becomes a glamorous pop star with the help and hindrance of a gaggle of crazy dames. Archly witty and abounding and self-aware parody and pop-cultural collage, this film composites various music videos Cody made for SSION songs from 2007-2009 and links them together with mockumentary interviews, tour footage and cultural critique. Shitty green screen and hand- made painted cardboard props abound, as do hot fags, hot dance moves, and smoking hot costumes by Peggy Noland.
More muzak and videos here.
antoni and alison
finally made a pilgrimage to the antoni and alison shop in clerkenwell, thank you number 19 bus! and thank you lovely lady behind the counter for a nice conversation and for keeping the shop open a bit past closing time for me!

i even splurged and bought 2 t-shirts, WHITE t-shirts, which is a rather odd purchase for me but i could not resist the bow, polka dot, red/white/black combo!
