i stopped in pierogi on saturday as i was aimlessly wandering around williamsburg. i spent my weekend feeling somewhat melancholic and introspective and these clown paintings made me feel happy. the gallery was split into 2 parts, there were small (5″ x 5″-ish) meticulously painted portraits in the front and these bright, loose, cartoony clowns in the back (all by jim torok). i was way more intrigued by the clown paintings, possibly because of my mood & i kind of have a thing for clown noses.

i also spent some time looking through gabriela vainsencher’s (the artist of the week) work that they had out on top of their flat files. it is nice to actually handle artwork from time to time and not always view it pristinely hung on a white wall.
