Self-Portrait, 1964, Acrylic and paper collage on canvas: 39 7/8 x 29 7/8 inches

Discovered the artist Rosalyn Drexler at the Fredericks Freiser Gallery Pop Abstraction exhibition this past weekend. I don’t think I have ever seen her work before. Apparently she was working in the 60s making pop art paintings and sculpture along side all the big names we know today. I really really love the first work in this post (which is the one on exhibition in Chelsea).

She seems like a very progressive woman: Pop artist, professional wrestler (under the name Rosa Carlo, the Mexican Spitfire!), novelist, Obie Award-winning playwright, and Emmy Award-winning screenwriter. It always makes me very happy to find out about super cool ladies doing awesome things back when it really was more of a man’s world!
